Lots of music, just a few words

2015-09-21 11.03.02

So I haven’t written any posts lately. But I’ve been working on a TON of music. Here are the details.

By the way, the tracks below are all pay-what-you-want download. Click the “Download” link on each track and enter $0 or whatever you like to download the track and keep it forever.

“Omnipotent” going Live this Christmas!

I’ve been tapped to score my piece “Omnipotent” for the Christmas concert at East Naples United Methodist Church. This is big for me. The picture at the top of this post is one I took while I was working out the individual parts – it’s a lot of work, but it will be worth it.

About the piece: I took a line from Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus (which was based on Rev. 19:6): “For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth”. I added some strings, bass, and some kick-ass drums. Dark, foreboding, and lovely.

Worship in C

I was freaked out by the Pentecostal church my dad dragged me to when I was a teenager. But I was blown away by the final chord of the final song before the sermon. This final chord would be sustained for what seemed like a blissful eternity.

All the musicians would play, the congregation would sing, and the chord just kept growing in beauty and intensity. Finally all of the music would subside, leaving a very palpable sense of peace and presence that hung about the sanctuary. I’ve been thinking about how beautiful this was for years, and wrote this to try to experience this kind of rapture and beauty again.

A Thousand Ways

I put this love song I wrote for my wife out February 2015, but I never actually shared it on my blog. So here it is. These lyrics mean so much to me. Read them here.

The Clearing – Remastered!

My EP “The Clearing” has been completely remastered by the geniuses at Mercury Mastering and is almost ready to be re-released to iTunes, Spotify, and Pandora.

If you’d like to grab the current version, please do – there are a few bonus tracks available in the download that won’t be on the re-released album.

I just made this a pay-what-you-want download, so feel free to download, burn a CD, send it to a friend, whatever you like.

And now for something completely different…

This was just for fun. You can read about why I wrote this here.

Thank you!

As a way of saying thank you to my email subscribers, I’m putting together some tracks that will be shared only via my email list before they make it to my next album project. If you’d like to be a part of those, sign up below.

Thanks for reading, for listening, and here’s to living a life steeped in art, music and beauty.

Cheers,

Philip

  1. I’ve missed your writing, but I’m so happy to see you’ve been immersed in your music! Omnipotent being played live will be incredible, it’s one of my very favourites of your pieces and will make a powerful performance! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for sharing this little roundup of your music. I love your downtempo piece, I can’t wait to hear more of them. And Blind Eye is great! Keep up the great work, and keep sharing!

    1. Eva, I don’t know how I missed this comment. You’re so sweet. Thank you for the encouragement. I need to email you – I think we should start a blogging support group. (-:
